Nov. 2, 2023 (5:30 P.M) – The University of Tennessee Knoxville campus is about to see some big changes that will affect students who require extra help in school or are part of the UT College of Social Work. To expand the Haslam College of Business, the University of Tennessee has decided to tear down Dunford, Greve, and Henson Hall.
This decision is outlined in the University’s master plan.
Despite being public information, some first-year students are still not aware yet. When asked about his opinion on this, first year student George Lyndon said, “I mean out of all the things that they could be putting their money towards, they should be putting more money towards housing.”
The Academic Success Center moved into Perkins Hall over the summer. When asked if there were any disadvantages to the move to Perkins, Academic Coach Robyn Rambo Stanley said, “Our students sometimes experience a little challenge because if they’re going right from a coaching appointment and they’d like to go make a one-on-one appointment over in the Vols Study Center that may take an additional five to 10 minutes when it wouldn’t have before.”
While some people are upset about this, there are some benefits. Sara Conrad, Accommodations Coordinator for Student Disability Services (SDS) said, “When we move, we’re going to be able to have a larger testing center so we’ll be able to have more seats which means that we can see more students at once.”
The relocation of the SDS office was scheduled for the end of last spring, but it has been postponed to January 2, 2024, to accommodate modifications to Blount Hall for enhanced accessibility.
